POST GRADUATE APPRENTICESHIPS

I have now studied these complicated papers, and I must confess I find it very difficult to know exactly how we stand in regard to the financial arrangements.

2. The position is that we have 5 students over here at the present time, and a further batch of 5 have been recommended and selected (see letter at No.7). The arrangements for beinging them over here were made on our authority before the restoration of civil government in Hong Kong, and at the tie when these arrangements were made it was decided that the cast should be borne by Hong Kong Government funds. In our despatch to the Governor of Hong Kong at No. 82 on the '46 papers we explained to him the details of the arrangements made, but unfortunately did not tell him the proposed duration of each apprenticeship. From Miss Ruston's minute of 9th of May 1946 on the '46 papers it appears that the normal arrangement is for each apprenticeship to be for one year in the first instance, with an extension for a further year subject to satisfactory progress being made.
